Further ideas - Opening Sequence

No non-diagetic soundtrack, the idea is that the audience see the film as made-up, or fictional when they hear the non-diagetic sound, reminding them that it is just a film, if we were to not include the soundtrack we could create suspense and grip the audience in the thriller a lot easier.
Although, in order to achieve the ability to use other softwares for our evaluation we will use garageband to try to make diagetic sounds, such as the general environment sounds like wind, doors banging perhaps or any other necessary sound for the sequence.

Also, to follow the conventions of Thrillers we could use a flash fast forward or some such kind of edit to leave what happens in the house as an enigma, and potentially as the crime or mystery the narrative is to revolve around.

Homework 2 - Ideas

Using command prompt page, imply the person using the program is some kind of hacker.
This is used to obtain the address of someone else, a victim, as the hacker can go to their home.

The camera can cut between what the character is doing, and when they were using the computer to obtain the address or location.

Homework2

So far for our opening sequence I thought we could have a camera zooming in a character's eye then the camera begins to show various body parts then it zooms out to show the whole figure while rotating around him/her

Opening Sequence Analysis:Face Off

In the Opening sequence of face off, tension and suspence are built up from the begining. For example in the first few seconds of the sequence, a father is show enjoying his time with his son, this gives a feeling of equilibrium. This makes the audience curious to find out will go wrong, thus creating tension.

Furthermore the music simultainiously changes to suit the pace of the video. When the video was almost in slowmotion the music was slow paced. However when the camera focused onto the mam with the gun the music instantly increased in pace.

The camera work is also a vital part of the opening. Camera angles are utilized to build up curiousty. Instead of just showing the face of the killer, the camera focuses on several parts of his face moving from one camera angle to the other. This makes the audience want to know more about this charater.

The match on action technique is also applied on every impotant action the actors do. For instace when the gunner pulls the trigger the camera progresses on an angle that can clearly focus on that action.

Overall the wide range of techniques are used to make the opening sequence more thrilling thus sending enigma codes to target audience making them question many thing that are revealed in the opening.

Video: Face-Off

Score sets atmosphere to the sequence, could reflect characters state of mind, especially as it changes mostly as the camera cuts between shots of either character.

Character flaw, in the opening sequence the character played by John Travolta has his child die in his arms, could be seen as a failure to save his son.

Close ups of facial expression, the character played by Nicholas Cage is getting ready to kill the other character.

Notions of looking, close up of Nicholas Cage, mostly of his eyes, looking down at John Travolta and looking through the scope of his rifle.

An Enigma is created from the beginning, "Why is this character trying to shoot the other?", also, given a convention of many thrillers is what could happen, and not what does, the question "is he going to shoot him?" could be raised briefly, as Nicholas Cage takes his eye off've the scope perhaps deciding not to shoot the other character.

Suspense is made using both camera shots of the shooter, the PoV shot of him looking at the others and down the scope of his rifle along with the non-diagetic soundtrack.

Homework 2

I would like to add a filter so it had a less amatuer look prehaps black and white. Also a POV chase seen avoiding the blurred unprofessional look when the camera goes from left to right.
